Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the fell 1.41%, while the index declined 1.15%, and the index fell 1.65%.

The best performers of the session on the were Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:), which rose 4.23% or 0.337 points to trade at 8.311 at the close. Meanwhile, Continental AG O.N. (DE:) fell 0.21% or 0.22 points to end at 103.04 and RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:) was down 0.22% or 0.070 points to 31.790 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:), which fell 3.48% or 5.92 points to trade at 164.00 at the close. Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:) declined 3.04% or 1.475 points to end at 47.000 and Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:) was down 2.37% or 0.495 points to 20.360.

The top performers on the MDAX were Software AG (DE:) which rose 2.84% to 29.730, Varta AG (DE:) which was up 1.67% to settle at 79.300 and Knorr-Bremse AG (DE:) which gained 0.53% to close at 99.30.

The worst performers were Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (DE:) which was down 3.74% to 113.300 in late trade, Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:) which lost 3.42% to settle at 62.150 and Evotec AG O.N. (DE:) which was down 3.34% to 24.580 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Software AG (DE:) which rose 2.84% to 29.730, Varta AG (DE:) which was up 1.67% to settle at 79.300 and New Work SE (DE:) which gained 0.34% to close at 296.00.

The worst performers were Nordex SE O.N. (DE:) which was down 5.86% to 11.890 in late trade, S&T AG (DE:) which lost 4.56% to settle at 24.72 and Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (DE:) which was down 3.74% to 113.300 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 527 to 148 and 71 ended unchanged.

Shares in Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:) rose to 52-week highs; up 4.23% or 0.337 to 8.311.

The , which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 12.03% to 16.86.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.89% or 13.90 to $1584.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.76% or 1.47 to hit $51.86 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 3.29% or 1.94 to trade at $56.97 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.25% to 1.1037, while EUR/GBP fell 0.28% to 0.8430.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 97.635.
