Barron’s is looking to recognize people and organizations whose products, services or education programs are making an impact to improve the financial health and security of people and communities across America. Individuals and institutions are welcome to nominate eligible participants to the inaugural Barron’s Celebrates: Financial Empowerment competition.

Nominations may be submitted using this form, which also provides more information on the judging methodology. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 29.

Winners will be honored at a gala on April 28 at Gotham Hall in New York City. With this gala, Barron’s seeks to shine a spotlight on entities who are addressing a critically important financial need that affects a significant number of people.

Barron’s is producing this program along with Junior Achievement, an organization fostering work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills in kindergarten to 12th-grade students. The net proceeds of the event will be donated to Junior Achievement.

“Everyone works with money every day, yet most Americans learn about personal finances through trial and error, not through some form of educational program,” said Jack E. Kosakowski, President & CEO of Junior Achievement USA. “That’s why Barron’s support of organizations that promote financial empowerment is so important. Parents, schools and financial institutions can’t do it alone. We need to work together if we want to move the needle on Americans’ financial capability.”

Entrants will be judged on purpose, scalability and effectiveness, including measurable impact. Barron’s will name independent judges who will review submissions.

“We are delighted that Barron’s and Junior Achievement are teaming up on our joint mission of helping people make good financial decisions,” said Almar Latour, Publisher, Barron’s Group. “There is a financial literacy crisis in the U.S. and, along with Junior Achievement, we are doing our part to help attract attention to the problem and accelerate solutions.”
