‘When all the postmortems are done, the media, in my opinion, is gonna get a big fat F. It’s done nothing. It’s done nothing but incite differences. At a point in time when the house was on fire, they’re out there putting gas on it because it’s fun. Right now, we need unity like never before.’

That’s billionaire Ken Langone, the co-founder of Home Depot HD, -1.36%, venting his frustration over the media in an interview on CNBC on Monday morning.

The media, of course, has been critical of Trump and his administration for not being properly prepared and playing down the coronavirus before the outbreak erupted in the United States.

CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin doesn’t see and told the longtime Trump supporter exactly that.

“Had the media been allowed to do its job in China in January, we might not have this problem, because the media’s job is to blow the whistle,” Sorkin countered, adding that the role of reporters covering the pandemic is “not to tell you warm and happy stories every day.”

To that, Langone said Sorkin was merely doing what the media does, which is to “never admit they might have made a mistake.” Ultimately, Langone added, the American people will have the final say in the Trump administration’s response has been come November.
