Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 2.16%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 2.16% to hit a new 1-month high.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Webjet Ltd (ASX:WEB), which rose 15.56% or 0.56 points to trade at 4.16 at the close. Meanwhile, Flight Centre Ltd (ASX:FLT) added 15.23% or 1.72 points to end at 13.01 and Southern Cross Media Group Ltd (ASX:SXL) was up 10.34% or 0.015 points to 0.160 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Technology One Ltd (ASX:TNE), which fell 4.24% or 0.42 points to trade at 9.49 at the close. Perenti Global Ltd (ASX:PRN) declined 2.11% or 0.025 points to end at 1.160 and Monadelphous Group Ltd (ASX:MND) was down 1.40% or 0.15 points to 10.58.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 803 to 393 and 330 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 9.19% to 22.176.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.57% or 9.95 to $1725.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.08% or 0.36 to hit $33.61 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.34% or 0.12 to trade at $35.25 a barrel.

AUD/USD was down 0.08% to 0.6530, while AUD/JPY rose 0.36% to 70.34.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 99.933.
