Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.59%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.59%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Afterpay Touch Group Ltd (ASX:APT), which rose 11.36% or 7.50 points to trade at 73.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Netwealth Group Ltd (ASX:NWL) added 9.16% or 0.85 points to end at 10.13 and Perenti Global Ltd (ASX:PRN) was up 7.51% or 0.080 points to 1.145 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were GWA Group Ltd (ASX:GWA), which fell 3.02% or 0.08 points to trade at 2.57 at the close. Treasury Wine Estates Ltd (ASX:TWE) declined 2.93% or 0.330 points to end at 10.950 and Star Entertainment Group Ltd (ASX:SGR) was down 2.82% or 0.08 points to 2.76.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 761 to 463 and 321 ended unchanged.

Shares in Afterpay Touch Group Ltd (ASX:APT) rose to all time highs; gaining 11.36% or 7.50 to 73.50. Shares in Netwealth Group Ltd (ASX:NWL) rose to all time highs; gaining 9.16% or 0.85 to 10.13.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 6.82% to 18.611.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.01% or 0.10 to $1820.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.22% or 0.09 to hit $40.81 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.12% or 0.05 to trade at $43.24 a barrel.

AUD/USD was up 0.08% to 0.6987, while AUD/JPY rose 0.08% to 74.94.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 96.252.
