Michelle Caruso-Cabrera, the longtime CNBC journalist, plans to challenge influential Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in a Democratic primary for New York’s 14th congressional district, according to a Monday filing with the Federal Election Commission.

Caruso-Cabrera, often called MCC, joins a pack of candidates aiming to oust Ocasio-Cortez, often called AOC. Two other Democrats and eight Republicans have filed to run for the seat, according to the FEC’s records.

AOC won her spot in the House of Representatives after her stunning upset of a longtime congressman, Joe Crowley, in a Democratic primary in June 2018.

Caruso-Cabrera explained her bid as follows, according to a CNBC report: “As the daughter and granddaughter of working-class Italian and Cuban immigrants and having worked my way to a terrific career, I want everyone to have the chances that I had at the American dream.”

The business news outlet, part of Comcast Corp.’s CMCSA, -0.21%  NBCUniversal unit, also said Caruso-Cabrera has been a CNBC contributor recently but now will no longer contribute.
