ISTANBUL—Turkish prosecutors have launched an investigation into the escape of Carlos Ghosn from Japan to Lebanon to determine how the former head of the Renault- Nissan alliance made a stopover at Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport unbeknown to Turkish authorities, according to a Turkish official familiar with the matter.
Turkish prosecutors have sought to detain several people in connection with the investigation, the official said.
Seven individuals, including four pilots, have been detained, according to Turkish television.
The Wall Street Journal and some Japanese media reported that a long-range Bombardier business jet operated by a Turkish company left the Kansai airport on Sunday night and landed in Istanbul Monday morning—matching what is known of Mr. Ghosn’s movements en route to Lebanon.
