Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 1.41%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 1.41%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Afterpay Touch Group Ltd (ASX:APT), which rose 23.80% or 6.94 points to trade at 36.10 at the close. Meanwhile, Qube Holdings Ltd (ASX:QUB) added 13.12% or 0.290 points to end at 2.500 and Gold Road Resources Ltd (ASX:GOR) was up 8.16% or 0.120 points to 1.590 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were AP Eagers Ltd (ASX:APE), which fell 7.31% or 0.34 points to trade at 4.31 at the close. oOh!Media Ltd (ASX:OML) declined 7.04% or 0.07 points to end at 0.93 and Flight Centre Ltd (ASX:FLT) was down 6.27% or 0.63 points to 9.42.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 655 to 546 and 324 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 3.20% to 28.676.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.83% or 14.20 to $1715.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 5.81% or 1.15 to hit $18.63 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.72% or 0.19 to trade at $26.25 a barrel.

AUD/USD was down 0.38% to 0.6393, while AUD/JPY fell 0.58% to 68.27.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 99.380.
