Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 1.03%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 1.03%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Saracen Mineral Holdings Ltd (ASX:SAR), which rose 11.29% or 0.57 points to trade at 5.62 at the close. Meanwhile, AP Eagers Ltd (ASX:APE) added 10.37% or 0.51 points to end at 5.43 and Elders Ltd (ASX:ELD) was up 9.88% or 0.93 points to 10.34 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Austal Ltd (ASX:ASB), which fell 3.96% or 0.12 points to trade at 2.91 at the close. Unibail Rodamco Westfield (ASX:URW) declined 3.17% or 0.12 points to end at 3.67 and Southern Cross Media Group Ltd (ASX:SXL) was down 3.13% or 0.005 points to 0.155.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 812 to 411 and 341 ended unchanged.

Shares in Saracen Mineral Holdings Ltd (ASX:SAR) rose to all time highs; up 11.29% or 0.57 to 5.62. Shares in Elders Ltd (ASX:ELD) rose to 5-year highs; rising 9.88% or 0.93 to 10.34.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 1.61% to 24.639.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.83% or 14.60 to $1770.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 5.08% or 1.50 to hit $31.02 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 3.91% or 1.27 to trade at $33.77 a barrel.

AUD/USD was up 0.41% to 0.6441, while AUD/JPY rose 0.39% to 69.00.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 100.338.
