Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 1.88%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 1.88%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Ltd (ASX:CUV), which rose 6.80% or 1.50 points to trade at 23.55 at the close. Meanwhile, NRW Holdings Ltd (ASX:NWH) added 5.94% or 0.10 points to end at 1.70 and News Corp B DRC (ASX:NWS) was up 5.96% or 1.01 points to 17.96 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Ioof Holdings Ltd (ASX:IFL), which fell 2.92% or 0.15 points to trade at 4.99 at the close. Treasury Wine Estates Ltd (ASX:TWE) declined 2.28% or 0.260 points to end at 11.140 and Woodside Petroleum Ltd (ASX:WPL) was down 2.15% or 0.460 points to 20.960.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 846 to 385 and 311 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 0.97% to 17.901.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.20% or 3.65 to $1809.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.60% or 0.24 to hit $40.53 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.51% or 0.22 to trade at $43.12 a barrel.

AUD/USD was up 0.44% to 0.7005, while AUD/JPY rose 0.42% to 75.09.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 96.052.
