Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 1.04%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 1.04%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Seek Ltd (ASX:SEK), which rose 9.42% or 1.81 points to trade at 21.02 at the close. Meanwhile, AP Eagers Ltd (ASX:APE) added 7.93% or 0.71 points to end at 9.66 and EML Payments Ltd (ASX:EML) was up 6.34% or 0.18 points to 3.02 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Whitehaven Coal Ltd (ASX:WHC), which fell 5.18% or 0.050 points to trade at 0.915 at the close. oOh!Media Ltd (ASX:OML) declined 2.87% or 0.030 points to end at 1.015 and New Hope Corporation Ltd (ASX:NHC) was down 2.72% or 0.035 points to 1.250.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 809 to 483 and 325 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 7.38% to 18.548.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.11% or 2.10 to $1968.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.35% or 0.90 to hit $39.18 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.02% or 0.82 to trade at $41.35 a barrel.

AUD/USD was up 0.21% to 0.7317, while AUD/JPY rose 0.19% to 77.10.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 93.062.
