Walmart CEO Doug McMillon appeared with President Trump, Dr. Anthony Fauci and others at the White House in March

Walmart Inc.’s WMT, -2.04% Chief Executive Doug McMillon took a few moments on Tuesday during the retail giant’s fiscal third-quarter earnings call to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden.
“I want to wrap up by saying congratulations to President-elect Biden,” McMillon said, according to a FactSet transcript. “We look forward to working with the administration and Congress to move the country forward and solve issues on behalf of our associates, customers and other stakeholders.”
McMillon has been a guest to the White House on various occasions over the past four years. He appeared with President Donald Trump, Dr. Anthony Fauci and others at a Rose Garden press conference about the coronavirus pandemic in March.

McMillon was also among the business leaders who warned about a trade war with China in 2019.
In addition to serving as CEO of Walmart, McMillon is also the chairman of Business Roundtable, a group representing CEOs of major corporations. According to the Business Roundtable website, the organization’s members employ more than 15 million people, pays nearly $296 billion in dividends to shareholders and provides health care and retirement benefits to millions.
Jamie Dimon, the chief executive of JPMorgan Chase & Co. JPM, -0.98%, Mary Barra, General Motors Co. GM, -0.35% chief executive, and Johnson & Johnson Co. JNJ, -1.01% Chief Executive Alex Gorsky are among the group’s directors.
Business Roundtable also congratulated President-elect Biden in a Nov. 7 statement, along with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and members of Congress and state governments.
“While we respect the Trump campaign’s right to seek recounts, to call for investigation of alleged voting irregularities where evidence exists and to exhaust legitimate legal remedies, there is no indication that any of these would change the outcome,” the statement said.

“As we enter another period of closely divided government, we call on elected officials and Americans across the political spectrum to work in good faith to find common ground. Our country faces great challenges in the months ahead to defeat the pandemic and rebuild our economy. We will meet them only by working together.”
Walmart reported on Tuesday earnings and sales that beat expectations. Walmart shares have gained 26% for the year to date while the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.55% is up 4.4% for the period.
