The Margin: Melania Trump speaks to kids about the opioid crisis, endures ‘worst booing she has received at a public event’

So, when’s Alabama’s next home game?

President Trump is probably used to it by now, having been met with a chorus of boos at a couple of high-profile sporting events in the past month before he found relief in the warm embrace of Crimson Tide fans in the Deep South.

But for Melania, this is something new, according to CNN’s Kate Bennett.

“In my three years covering @FLOTUS at events, that was the worst booing she has received at a public event where she has given solo remarks,” Bennett wrote in a tweet, referring to the first lady’s appearance in Baltimore Tuesday.

She was on hand at a youth summit to raise awareness about the nation’s opioid crisis, which her husband just donated his third-quarter salary to help combat. That didn’t matter to the raucous crowd, as you can hear from this video:

It probably didn’t help that the president previously hammered Baltimore as a “rat and rodent infested mess” in a July tweet.

Melania, however, stuck to the script.

“Thank you to all of the students who are here,” she said, even as the crowd continued buzzing. “I am so proud of you for the bravery it takes to share that you have been strongly affected by the opioid epidemic in some way.”

She was again loudly booed, CNN reported, with a smattering of cheers, when she finished her speech and exited the stage.
